The Value of Remote Work: A Correspondence Experiment on Tutors

Dr. Sofoklis Goulas, Director of Public Policy Programs at Aletheia Research Institution and Fellow at the Brookings Institution, has published a new working paper first released as part of the IZA Institute of Labor Economics Discussion Paper Series. “The Value of Remote Work: A Correspondence Experiment on Tutors,” uses thousands of randomized inquiries on a tutoring platform in Greece to uncover a strong preference for online work. Female tutors, STEM educators, and those in competitive regions were significantly more likely to respond to remote requests, highlighting how remote work can expand labor supply and increase job satisfaction.
